Phraseological Units in Media Messages: Functional specificity

Abstract

The article determines that the modern Ukrainian mass media witnesses an extensive use of phraseological resources that optimize information perception and have great impact possibilities. Phraseological units play a significant role in the newspaper headline structure where they act as their semantic and suggestive concentrates. They feature concise forms and semantic capacity, emotional and evaluative expressiveness, which creates a holistic, gestalt perception of a media message in a predictable direction. Headline phraseological units impact effect consideration involved the principles of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and suggestive linguistics. The Ukrainian media phraseological units have been determined to be the optimal influence approach that appeals to the reader’s emotions and interest in information, and boosts thinking and attention. The expression of phraseological units’ pragmatic peculiarities is based on the high degree of meaning generalization as well as expressive and emotional fullness.
