Modern Trends in Global Book Publishing: Educational Aspect
Abstract
Currently, global book publishing is undergoing significant transformations, especially in the educational sector. Firstly, these are the consequences of widespread digitalization with changing consumer models and challenges related to the accessibility and quality of content. The purpose of the proposed article is to analyse the current trends that shape the educational book publishing market. The main objectives of the study were to show the state and development of the publication of educational and methodological literature in different countries of the world, to identify its diversity and common features, and to position Ukrainian achievements in this area.
Scientific research is based on source analysis using general scientific and special research methods, in particular, methods of deduction and induction in combination with methods of mathematical statistics and analogy.
The scientific novelty of the article is the identification of approaches to the educational segment of the publishing industry in different countries of the world, its place in the income part of economies, and development trends.
It is established that the educational direction in the publishing sector is one of the main ones in the leading countries of the world. A characteristic trend is the dominance of electronic textbooks and interactive educational materials, which are gradually replacing traditional printed publications, although their share in the total turnover remains insignificant. The market for educational technologies (EdTech) retains enormous potential and is developing rapidly, enabling the personalization of learning, rapid updating of information, and integration of multimedia elements.
New business models are studied, in particular subscription models and open educational resources, which offer alternatives to traditional commercial publishing.
It is also concluded that modern global educational book publishing is emerging as a driving force for innovation in education, but its success depends on solving socio-economic and technological problems.
In Ukraine, educational literature remains, primarily due to the restoration of state orders for textbooks, a key segment of the publishing market. However, the industry is currently lagging behind world leaders in the speed of digital transformation and the promotion of the SaaS model in EdTech, etc.
