Information Activities and the Language of the Press in the Formation of Public Communication
Abstract
In the contemporary information society, the vast majority of processes are created around high-quality communications, the purpose of which is to determine the dynamics of social, political, and cultural life. In this context, it is important to examine the relationship between information activities and the language of the press, which has become increasingly relevant in our time. Despite the emergence of novel challenges and technological advancements, the role of mass media in shaping public opinion continues to expand. The importance of shaping the public agenda and constructing social meanings through the demands of the times is increasing, and this requires a deeper scientific understanding of the mechanisms involved. This approach is becoming a tool for influencing collective consciousness. Despite the emergence of new digital formats, the press retains its status as a key element of public communication, remaining a space where state institutions, PR services, and the public interact.
In recent scientific discourse, the issue of information activity in the context of press language has been addressed in the works of Ukrainian researchers Yuriy Melnychenko, Valentina Kozlovtseva, Inna Golopych, and Iryna Chernova, who examine from various angles the manipulative influence on the formation of public opinion, which does not always have a negative context. In addition, the article mentions the work of T. van Dijk, who considers the language of the press as a component of discursive practice that reflects the ideological structures of society, and representatives of agenda- setting and framing theories, according to which the media shape the public agenda through the choice of topics and ways of presenting them linguistically.
The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship between information activities and linguistic models of press language in the process of public communication formation.
The results of the study confirm that the effectiveness of information activities is largely determined by the correspondence of linguistic means to the expectations of the audience and the context of communication. The language of the press acts as a mechanism for framing reality, setting the interpretative framework for the social perception of events. The period of simply informing the population is receding into the background and is rarely used in modern conditions. In public discourse, particularly in official communications from state structures, there is a tendency to strike a balance between caution and confidence or to stabilize the situation around contemporary challenges. Keywords: public relations, information activities, audience, social communications, press language, public communication.
